Project Summary

The scheme involved the development of a public Pocket Park located in the heart of East Belfast along the Newtownards Road and to the rear of CS Lewis Square to provide local community and stakeholders with a welcoming public space created using bespoke construction materials and a cycle café developed using steel container pods.

The scheme involved the installation of new exposed aggregate concrete surfacing, Hartecast street furniture, Cycle Café fitted with Civil / Structural and M&E services, community artwork, SUSTRANS container pod, granite upstand boundary wall and soft landscaped areas.

Benefits

The Pocket Park with it's cycle rest station, café and performance area, supplements the other sections of Connswater Community Greenway providing an additional destination place for the local community and tourists alike. Sitting beside CS Lewis Square, this park is now widely used by families and commuters with the aesthetics of the re-purposed shipping containers providing a connection to the rich maritime history of this part of Belfast.
