General teaching areas are augmented by specialist subject classrooms for science, art, food technology, and music all with easy access to a centrally located library. There are dedicated sensory rooms and a therapy suite to support the additional needs of pupils including a life skills room to teach independent living skills.

A large, dedicated sports hall I supported by 2 generous and separate dining rooms for Primary and Secondary pupils. The Primary dining room includes a breakout area for Early Years lunches, enabling extra support to the youngest children in the first stage of their independent school career. The completed school has been well received by the Employer, Staff and Pupils.

Benefits

The staff at Marjory Kinnon SEN school placed tremendous importance on optimising the outdoor learning experience. McAdams worked tirelessly with the teachers, educationalists, pupils and parents to understanding how the restricted site could be best utilised as both a learning and recreation space. Key features include:

  • Early Years pupils have their own specially designed play space
  • The Primary area includes a sensory garden, a cycle track, a football pitch and an active area with swings, a climbing frame and sunken trampolines
  • The Secondary outside space has a more mature feel with outdoor gym equipment and pop up table tennis, a 4G football pitch, a reflections garden for quieter lunchtimes and an Eco Garden to promote an interest in horticulture
  • The former school has been demolished and the site developed into a grass playing field incorporating full size football pitches. These are seen as a wider community resource with supervised and controlled access by local clubs.
