Project Summary

This innovative and exciting new build school caters for 1200 pupils within a diverse teaching curriculum and was designed to be delivered in 2 phases on the existing site whilst the original school remains fully operational. The 15,800m2 design achieves high standards in educational, operational & sustainable performance whilst providing a full range of teaching accommodation suitable for a modern 1200 pupil co-ed school incorporating enhanced sports hall & Gym (700m2). Plan arrangements are flexible thus facilitating a range of events and exhibitions in support of the key school activities. A large dining facility offers views to the south over the semi-rural surroundings. The school also benefits from a large Learning Support Centre (580m2) located in the heart of the new building making this a fully inclusive full spectrum learning school. The LSC can operate independently or be fully integrated. We have developed the design in close consultation with the Education Authority, Department of Education, and local community representatives to ensure their full support for the project.


Designed with the focus on added value from inception our successful strategies include:

  • Optimising the school ethos of “caring and learning together” exemplified by a fully inclusive Learning Support Centre. This is a tremendous community asset
  • Promoting ‘’school in the community’’ by developing enhanced pitch provisions in conjunction with the local Council. These can be used by local sports clubs at weekends
  • Creating a landmark & stimulating building on the outskirts of Craigavon
  • The design also recognises that the school has an important social role within the community and it is designed with community access in mind
  • Integrating affordable and effective energy efficient strategies. We achieved this by incorporating mixed mode ventilation with heat recovery, the use of renewable energies (solar thermal), high levels of insulation and air tightness, high efficiency gas boilers, low E glazing and low energy lighting systems and water harvesting.
