Derg WTW had been experiencing exceedances for the pesticide MCPA and rising trihalomethane precursors in the final water. In response to this a new building was constructed as a preliminary treatment stage housing new inlet mixing, new clarifiers, new powder activated carbon dosing and sludge management.
McAdam completed the design of the required reinforced concrete tanks contained within the steel frame building. The building was sited on an existing facility and required the integration of all new site services with the existing including road, drainage and pipework design.
The water supply from Derg now benefits from improved inlet facilities to address the variation in raw water possible at the site. Since the works were completed there have been no MCPA or THM failures recorded on the outgoing water supply.
