The existing Ballygowan WWTW was failing with the population in the area having exceeded the design potential of existing assets. With future growth predicted, NI Water commissioned an extensive upgrade to provide effective wastewater treatment for the current population and provide scope for future growth in the area.
McAdam completed the civil, structural and hydraulic design of the new 4500 PE works including inlet works, storm storage tanks, CAS tanks, sludge management and associated site access roads and services. Much of the works was constructed on a greenfield site allowing for an efficient programme and turn of flows.
Ballygowan now has potential for development growth with increased storm storage and a higher standard of final effluent.
