Cunningham Building, Londonderry

We have recently applied for Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for the refurbishment and extension to the Cunningham Building at Ebrington Barracks, Londonderry.

The Cunningham Building is an imposing rubble stone building at the former main entrance to Ebrington Barracks; it is Grade B2 listed and was built as a barrack block in 1875. The building was utilised as offices for a considerable period, as evidenced by the fading paintwork signs. Formerly the divisional drafting office, it was the barracks post office until the closure of Ebrington Barracks.

The refurbishment involves the change of use of the existing building into a licensed Restaurant and Bar. There will be extensive internal alterations however the external appearance of the building will be restored to its former appearance.

At the rear of the building will be a new modern yet modest extension. The new works are clearly distinguishable from the existing building and the extension could readily be removed and the original fabric brought back to its original state in the future.
